Electronic Medical Record Technology

At DermOne, one of the ways we’re improving the experience for patients and care providers alike is through the use of electronic medical records. Thanks to an innovative technology system called EMA––short for electronic medical assistant––those bulky, paper medical charts of yesterday have given way to an efficient, secure, technology-based system that saves time and, most importantly, improves care.

EMA, developed by Modernizing Medicine, is not only an electronic medical record system, it also enables care providers to enter and access critical patient information on computer tablet-like devices that are light, portable and easily carried from provider office to patient room.

The software uses touch-based technology, allowing care providers to instantly enter notes, look up test results, download patient discharge summaries, write prescriptions, check for possible drug interactions and document treatment plans in a fraction of the time they would otherwise spend if doing these tasks manually. For providers, that means less time spent filling out forms and more time for actual patient care.

Patients, meanwhile, will have access to an online patient portal, where they can update their own medical history, review their care plans and test results, and other convenient functions.
